TASMANIAN STATE BUCKSKIN SHOW : 1ST MARCH, 2009

Firstly congratulations to the wonderful group of exhibitors who paraded before me at the recent Tasmanian State Buckskin Show. The display of ring etiquette and sportsmanship was commendable and made judging a pleasure.

The Tasmanian Buckskin society have put together an extensive program of events for their members, giving everybody an opportunity to compete in lots of different classes.   Although the number of entrants was disappointing, the quality of the exhibits was not.   There was a good variety of breeds represented on the day and the line up of champions was very gratifying.

The Supreme Champion Buckskin was a lovely mare who I am sure would hold her own in open company and one that many would love to have in their own paddock.

The ridden classes were, again, small in number, but all the horses performed exceptionally well and it was lovely to see such well behaved and well educated horses. There can only be one winner on the day, but all of these horses are capable of producing a Championship performance under saddle.

The Supreme Champion Ridden Exhibit of the Show has a great future under saddle and I am sure that this award today is just the beginning of a long and successful career.

Thank you to the committee of the TBI for inviting me to judge today and congratulations for putting on such a great program.  Thank you too, to the “non buckskin” members who volunteered to look after me before, during and after the show to take the pressure off the committee.  This support between the different breed societies is something that a lot more organisations on the mainland could certainly duplicate.
